Main Site - Redesign

Redesigned WebGIS.net Homepage

The redesigned WebGIS.net site, launched in August 2003, featured a simple, clean design, and also meet current W3C web standards for XHTML and CSS, which ensured greater accessibility for visually impaired users and allowed for increased portability across web-enabled devices.

My roles for this project included graphic design and layout, site organization, and PHP scripting.

Web-based Geographic Information System

WebGIS site for Ashe County NC

In 2000-01, I was involved in the development of the second-generation web-based Geographic Information System for WebGIS.net, using ESRI's ArcIMS Server, Active Server Pages and DHTML. My primary role for this project was the design and development of the DHTML user interface.

Launched in 2001, the client-side scripting was updated in 2002 to support a wider range of web browsers.

Parcel QuickSearch

In 2003 I developed a stripped-down, no-frills interface for searching and retrieving basic parcel data, as an alternative to the more complex (and DHTML-intensive) ArcIMS sites. Built with PHP, CSS and XHTML, and connected to a MS-SQL Server database, this Parcel QuickSearch is ideal for users with slow connections, older browsers, or who do not need full mapping.

GIS Interface for Handheld Computer

The first concept for a "Handheld WebGIS interface" was developed in 2001. Designed for devices with small screens and stylus-based user input, the interface consisted of simple forms, hyperlinks and imagemaps.

In 2003 I developed an even simpler interface for use with PDAs and mobile phones, which allows for parcel searching but does not include the mapping capabilities of the earlier concept.
